Earlier today, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region IV-A (CALABARZON), through the Conservation and Development Division and PENRO Cavite, conducted a mangrove tree planting and coastal clean-up in San Rafael IV, Noveleta, Cavite to celebrate the International Day for the Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystem.

Twenty-seven (27) kilos of trash were collected and 100 propagules of Rhizophora species were planted.

Participants and collaborators include the Forest Foundation Philippines (FFP), the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office of Noveleta, and Barangay San Rafael IV. The Noveleta Mangrove Farmers Association also participated in the event.

A two (2) day Workshop on the Preparation of Forest Land Use Plan of San Andres, Quezon that includes Setting of Vision, Mission & Objectives and Prioritization of Sub Watershed and Allocation of Forest and Forestland was conducted by the FLUP team of CENRO Catanauan with the full participation of the Municipal Technical Working Group and the Barangay Captains & Officials of 7 barangays within San Andres, Quezon held on July 21-22, 2020 at Brgy. Poblacion, San Andres, Quezon.

Presentation of the Forest Land Use Plan (FLUP) was conducted for its Adoption of the Sangguniang Bayan of San Narciso, Quezon happened on July 20, 2020.

A Special Event through the conduct of massive coastal clean-up activity was facilitated by the CMEMP Focal and staff of CENRO Catanauan headed by OIC, CENRO Joselito Barros in coordination with the MENRO and MAO of Buenavista, Quezon. The activity was participated by the Local Government Unit of Buenavista, Quezon, Barangay Officials, Samahan ng mga Mangingisda and other volunteers of the 9 coastal barangays within Buenavista, Quezon.

CENRO Calaca headed by OIC-CENRO Isagani Amatorio conducted Mangrove tree planting and coastal clean-up, as this office enjoins on the celebration of World Mangrove Day 2020 held at Brgy. Lumaniag Lian, Batangas.

The said activity was made possible with the help of selected employees of CENRO Calaca, MENRO Lian, LGU barangay of Lumaniag, Lian Fisherfolk Association and some residents of the said barangay.

At the outset, an IEC lecture was also conducted by Information Officer-Juvy Reytiran about brief history of World Mangrove Day, importance of Mangrove Ecosystem, Mangrove forest in the Philippines, Different types of Mangroves and existing laws implemented for the conservation of mangroves were discussed.

For the last part of the activity, 50 seedlings of Avicennia sp. (Also known as “Kalapinay”) and Aegiceras sp. (“ Saging-saging) were planted and a total of 10 sacks of trash collected during the clean-up.

Lasty, during the conduct of the said activities, participants had strictly observed and practiced the safety and health precautionary measures such as wearing of face masks and observance of 1.5 m social distancing.
