CENRO Catanauan, Quezon employees wear orange shirts in observance of the 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW).

The 18-day campaign, themed “UNITEd for a VAW-free Philippines”, aimed to highlight the powerful impact of efforts towards the goal of ending violence against women in the country. The advocacy is observed annually from November 25 to December 12 as mandated by Proclamation 1172, Series of 2006 signed by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

On the other hand, RA 9262 otherwise known as the Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) Act creates and supports comprehensive and cost-effective responses to domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking. Moreover, under Republic Act 10398 or the Act declaring November 25 of every year as the National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of VAWC, government agencies are mandated to raise awareness on the problem of violence and the elimination of all forms of violence against women.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Batangas attended the meeting for the output presentation following the completion of the field validation for the implementation of the “Land Cover Mapping Project”, which aims to classify the land cover based on the 12 categories set by the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA).

The said activity was spearheaded by the NAMRIA and was attended by Technical staff from DENR Batangas particularly the GIS experts, and Batangas Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) – Batangas, and PG-ENRO Batangas employees.

A concerned citizen of Brgy. Pook, Tayabas City, Quezon voluntarily turned over one Reticulated Python to the DENR-Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Tayabas City on November 6, 2023.

Mr. Alex R. Jaballa, the concerned citizen, caught the said wildlife inside the kitchen area of their house on the same day of the turnover. The wildlife was immediately brought to the Office of the City Veterinarian in Tayabas on the following day by the assisting forest officers under the Monitoring and Enforcement Section of CENRO Tayabas, to undergo a veterinary medical inspection/examination.

The Reticulated Python appeared to be healthy and in good body condition, ready to be released to its natural habitat. As per the recommendation of the attending veterinarian, the said wildlife was freed in the forest area of Brgy. Ilayang Gibanga, Tayabas City, afterwards.

This entire endeavor aligns with the principles of Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act of 2001, as it ensures the preservation of ecological balance and the protection of wildlife species and their natural habitats.

CENRO Tayabas continuously calls for these types of incidents to be reported to protect and conserve our biodiversity.
