In celebration of the International Day of Forests, personnel from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Tayabas City and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Quezon, as well as representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Central Office came together to conduct a tree growing activity at Quezon Protected Landscape (QPL) in Brgy. Silangang Malicboy, Pagbilao, Quezon on March 21, 2023.

A total of 200 seedlings composed of 100 White Nato (Pouteria villamilli) and 100 Makaasim (Syrzygium nitidum) were planted within the 55-hectare Fruit Tree Plantation established in 2013 under the National Greening Program.

Prior to the tree planting proper, Cyril A. Coliflores, the CENR Officer, made a welcome message during the event and emphasized the value of honoring the IDF, especially its history.

A brief speech was also delivered by Quezon PENR Officer Ronilo L. Salac, who stressed the value of planting trees for both the present and future generations. He emphasized that, in order to maximize the benefits of planting trees in the long-term, attention should be paid more to the survival and development of planted trees than to the quantity of trees that are actually planted.

Project Evaluation Officer III Rolando Carbon of DENR Central Office expressed his gratitude for being invited to the event, and recognized the efforts and dedication of the office in conducting such activity.

For the year’s IDF theme “Healthy Forests for Healthy People”, the participants also engaged in a physical activity before the planting proper to improve their physical fitness. Loosening their muscles and increasing their flexibility helped them get their body prepared for the physical demands of planting trees. The said exercise reduced the risk of strains and sprains during the planting process.
