DENR-CENRO Calauag, Quezon spearheaded the conduct of a seminar on the deputation of selected members of the 85th Infantry (SANDIWA) Battalion, 2ID, Philippine Army and 3rd and 4th Districts of PNP Quezon as Environment and Natural Resources Officers for Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) in Brgy. Sta. Maria, Calauag, Quezon.

MGB requested assistance from CENRO Calauag to deputize ENR Officers who will serve as partners in the enforcement of laws and policies of the department. The activity aimed to equip the participants with technical knowledge and skills to perform duties and to ensure intensified efforts to protect the environment and natural resources from offenders.

The said activity was consistent with DENR Administrative Order No. 2008-22 or the Revised Guidelines on the Deputation of Environment and Natural Resources Officers, and Executive Order No. 192, directly involving the citizenry in the efforts to conserve and protect the country’s environment and natural resources.   

CENR Officer Joselito Barros conveyed his gratitude to the participating government agencies for their active involvement in such activities. Further, Lt. Col. Joel Jonson, Batallion Commander of 85th Inf SANDIWA, and PCol. Ledon Monte, Provincial Director of PPO also expressed their support for the department’s mandate.

The topics discussed during the seminar were: introduction to mining and mining laws by Engr. Jose Mari Bungalam; apprehension and confiscation procedures for mines by Engr. Ma. Angelica Brocelis; salient features and provisions of Presidential Decree No. 705 “Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines'' and Republic Act No. 9175 or Chainsaw Act of the Philippines, and creation of Anti-illegal Logging Task-Force pursuant to Section No. 3od EO 23 by FT II Mark Andrew Mapula; salient features and provisions of Republic Act No. 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act by For. Romel David Rama, Chief, MES of CENRO Calauag; and rules for the apprehension of illegal forest products and the machinery, equipment, tools, and conveyances pursuant to DAO 1997-32 by For. Mario Nedia, Asst. MES Chief.

As per Section 3 of DAO 2008-22, some of the important duties of DENRO/s are: assist in the enforcement of laws, rules, and regulations governing the environment, forestlands, mineral lands, protected areas, and other lands of the public domain under the jurisdiction of DENR within their locality; and assist in the issuance of apprehension receipts, seizure orders, and notices of administrative hearings including the proceedings necessary for the conduct of administrative adjudications of illegally procured, transported, owned/possessed forest products, wildlife, minerals, and other natural resources.
