In a remarkable display of environmental commitment, personnel of DENR-PENRO Quezon imparted information on biodiversity conservation during the “YES-O BRIGADE: BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION IN SCHOOLS TO MITIGATE CLIMATE CHANGE" which was spearheaded by the Department of Education (DepEd) Lucena City, in collaboration with the Rotaract of Lucena South and Rotary Club of Lucena South, on September 30, 2023 in Brgy. Talao Talao, Lucena City in observance of the International Coastal Cleanup Day. The event was celebrated with an inspiring day of mangrove planting and coastal cleanup, demonstrating the community's dedication to preserve the coastal environment.

The day commenced with an enthusiastic gathering of students and teachers who rolled up their sleeves to plant mangroves and clean up the coastal area. This group effort embodies the fundamental values of International Coastal Cleanup Day, where communities worldwide come together to protect and restore our coastlines.

The event offers more than just physical conservation efforts. It was enriched by an informational lecture organized by the DENR-PENRO Quezon. Senior Ecosystems Management Specialist and Chief, Monitoring and Enforcement Section, Janeth R. Salazar delivered a lecture on biodiversity and its conservation, benefits of protected areas in Quezon province, importance of protected areas, and PA’s pivotal role in addressing climate change.

Afterwards, Development Management Officer II Hernan G. Merilo discussed about the DENR's priority thrusts and directions, crucial environmental laws such as Clean Air Act (RA 8749), Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 (RA 9003), Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004 (RA 9275), National Greening Program (EO 26), Enhanced National Greening Program (EO 193), Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines (PD 705), Chain Saw Act of 2002 (RA 9175), and Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act (RA 9147). Said comprehensive discussion highlighted the vital role of DENR PENRO Quezon in environmental stewardship as well as its commitment to educate and engage the communities.

A total of 179 delegates from various schools in Lucena City, including students, teachers, and YES-O representatives and coordinators, participated in the activity. Also, representatives from agencies and organizations such as Bureau of Fire Protection, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Rotary Club of Lucena South, Rotaract Club of Lucena South, Beta Sigma, and DENR came together in a demonstration of solidarity for the environment.

Also, during the event, a total of 130 plantable pencils were thoughtfully distributed by PENRO Quezon's Information Officer.###
