The DENR-CENRO Calauagโ€™s Planning and Support Unit (PSU) monitored and evaluated some existing facilities constructed and maintained, and activities being implemented within its jurisdiction.
 
Said monitoring is conducted quarterly by the PSU in order to solicit data on the status of the programs/projects and activities (PPA) being implemented by CENRO Calauag. Hence, to draw recommendations for further improvement and development of selected Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) programs.
 
Accordingly, the facilities that have been monitored and evaluated on 12 September 2023 were the lookout tower in Brgy. Mapulot, Tagkawayan, Quezon; monitoring station in Brgy. Tabugon, Sta. Elena, Camarines Norte; and the CENRO Calauag impounding area and office building in Brgy. Sabang II, Calauag, Quezon.
 
Per monitoring and evaluation, it was observed that some of the recommendations made during the 1st Quarter CY 2023 M&E, were already undertaken and several improvements were observed. Yet, in consideration of the availability of funds, the execution of other recommended maintenance activities was conducted gradually.
 
The wood flooring of the lookout tower was already repaired, portion of the steel structure of the building was repainted, and the base of the stairs was already cemented. Moreover, as per coordination with Forester Romel David D. Rama, Chief MES of CENRO Calauag, the repainting of the steel structure of the lookout tower will also be undertaken this year.
 
For the monitoring station, a water pump was already procured by the Office and according to the Chief MES of PENRO Daet, a PVC pipe for the water source was already purchased. Moreover, four (4) CCTVs installed are all functional and the Cignal box was already procured.
 
Furthermore, labels of confiscated logs made with laminated papers in the impounding area were already replaced by board/galvanized iron and paint labels. Likewise, the apprehended vehicles were properly labeled. However, the expansion of the impounding area was recommended to be included in the proposed Forward Estimates yearly.
 
Lastly, it was also recommended that the repair of the Fire Exit in the CENRO building shall be prioritized since it is vital for the emergency and safety purposes of the personnel.
 
For program and activities, the PSU personnel also monitored the conduct of the Second Semester Biodiversity Monitoring System (BMS) of Maulawin Spring Protected Landscape (MSPL), in Guinayangan Quezon, and the facilitation of a tree-growing activity and an awareness campaign in celebration of two (2) environmental events namely the 2023 International Day for the Preservation of Ozone Layer and World Environmental Health Day held in Alabat, Quezon on 14 September 2023. Per observations, the mentioned activities were properly executed and the objective of the undertakings was successfully attained.
 
The 3rd Quarter monitoring and evaluation was accomplished by CENRO Calauag Designated Planning Officer, Forest Ranger Charlene U. Fidel; Assistant Planning Officer, Admin Aide VI Daisylen V. Escalante; and Designated Admin Officer, Forest Technician I Abegail A. Mapula, with the assistance of some personnel from the Monitoring and Enforcement Section (MES).###
