Forester II Aleli C. Alvarez rendered a message on behalf of CENR Officer Joselito D. Barros and stressed that the mangrove ecosystem serves as a barrier against environmental hazards like typhoons and storm surges, especially in Brgy. Dapdap which is located near a coastline facing the Pacific Ocean. She added that it is significant to know the vital purpose of the community in the conservation and protection of environmental health.
Likewise, Dapdap Brgy. Chairperson, Hon. Michael Laid expressed his gratitude to the residents as well as to the involved private and government offices for their overwhelming support to the mangrove planting activities in their barangay. According to him, Brgy. Dapdap community is very thankful that the government and private entities reached their barangay for a joint project to protect the Brgy. Dapdap coastal community.
Moreover, a series of planting activities ensued in the succeeding days to cover the targeted 7-hectare mangrove site of Brgy. Dapdap in a 4-day scheduled planting. CENRO Calauag personnel, on the other hand, also performed an aerial survey at Sitio Dundulit for potential expansion of mangrove planting projects in the said barangay.
A total of 8,000 propagules of Rhizophora sp. were planted at the 7-hectare mangrove site of Sitio Sulok and Sitio Dunulit, Brgy. Dapdap, Calauag, Quezon by a total of 61 volunteers from the community of Brgy. Dapdap; OISCA International; Capalonga Mangrove Development Association Inc.; and DENR-CENRO Calauag headed by EMS II Novet Joy S. Pantalunan, Chief of the Conservation and Development Section (CDS).###
