DENR-CENRO Calauag spearheaded a mangrove planting along portions of coastal area in Brgy. Dapdap, Calauag, Quezon through a collaborative effort with the Organization for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement (OISCA) and Capalonga Mangrove Development Association Inc.
Said activity was conducted to promote environmental well-being that will in turn secure the health and safety of the community residing along the coastal areas of Brgy. Dapdap. This is also in line with the celebration of the World Environmental Health Day - 26 September 2023 with a theme, “Global Environmental Public Health: Standing up to protect everyone's Health each and every day.”
Before proceeding to the planting site, an orientation and overview of the activity was facilitated by Ms. Maribeth N. Reboton, Director of the OISCA Manila Office, at the barangay hall of Dapdap. OISCA is an organization that promotes international cooperation and has banner programs that facilitate capacity building, rural development, environmental restoration, and children’s forest programs.
Moreover, the Capalonga Mangrove Development Association Inc. headed by Mr. Ramil R. Raviz has been a consistent partner People’s Organization (PO) of OISCA since 2005 in different initiatives when it comes to environmental health. Some of the joint activities that they conducted with OISCA were the mangrove rehabilitation projects in the towns of Capalonga and Jose Panganiban in Camarines Norte; Cabusao, Camarines Sur; and the one recently concluded in Brgy. Dapdap, Calauag, Quezon.

Forester II Aleli C. Alvarez rendered a message on behalf of CENR Officer Joselito D. Barros and stressed that the mangrove ecosystem serves as a barrier against environmental hazards like typhoons and storm surges, especially in Brgy. Dapdap which is located near a coastline facing the Pacific Ocean. She added that it is significant to know the vital purpose of the community in the conservation and protection of environmental health.

Likewise, Dapdap Brgy. Chairperson, Hon. Michael Laid expressed his gratitude to the residents as well as to the involved private and government offices for their overwhelming support to the mangrove planting activities in their barangay. According to him, Brgy. Dapdap community is very thankful that the government and private entities reached their barangay for a joint project to protect the Brgy. Dapdap coastal community.

Moreover, a series of planting activities ensued in the succeeding days to cover the targeted 7-hectare mangrove site of Brgy. Dapdap in a 4-day scheduled planting. CENRO Calauag personnel, on the other hand, also performed an aerial survey at Sitio Dundulit for potential expansion of mangrove planting projects in the said barangay.

A total of 8,000 propagules of Rhizophora sp. were planted at the 7-hectare mangrove site of Sitio Sulok and Sitio Dunulit, Brgy. Dapdap, Calauag, Quezon by a total of 61 volunteers from the community of Brgy. Dapdap; OISCA International; Capalonga Mangrove Development Association Inc.; and DENR-CENRO Calauag headed by EMS II Novet Joy S. Pantalunan, Chief of the Conservation and Development Section (CDS).###
