The Department of Environment and Natural Resources PENRO Cavite, through the Production Forest and Management Unit (PFMU), led the conduct of a workshop/writeshop on the finalization of vision, mission, goals, objectives, scope and limitations, as well as the preparation of Work and Financial Plan (WFP) together with the budgetary requirements needed for the implementation of the Integrated Watershed Management Plan (IWMP) of Timalan River Watershed (TRW). The said event was held on August 17, 2023 at the Conference Room of DENR PENRO Cavite Building, Brgy. Gregorio, Trece Martires City, Cavite.

The activity was attended by sixty (60) participants comprised of thirty-five (35) males and twenty-five (25) females from different departments of the Cavite Provincial Government, together with the Local Government Units (LGUs) of Trece Martires, Naic, Tanza, and PENRO Cavite personnel.

Cavite PENR Officer Januel R. Peras delivered the opening message of the event, wherein he emphasized that cooperation and proper coordination among the stakeholders are vital factors in order to achieve our shared objectives and goals for TRW. PENRO Peras also expressed his gratitude to all the participants who attended the event and for their unwavering support to the programs and projects of DENR especially in Cavite province. He stressed that their office is always ready to provide technical assistance in the pursuit of environmental protection and conservation.

The Chief of Conservation and Development Section, Forester Alipia D. Espiritu, discussed the rationale and the draft vision, mission, goal, objectives, scope, and limitations of TRW. Several comments and suggestions have been raised to effectively implement conservation and protection measures in TRW concerning additional establishments of solid waste control measures such as trash traps and billboards/signage; the conduct of training on urban agriculture; the establishment of Sloping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT); regular conduct of stream flow and water analysis; private partnerships for clean-up drives; and an extensive information education campaign drive.

Relative to the preparation and updating of the IWMP for TRW, a Watershed Management Council (WMC) for the said watershed shall be created under DENR Administrative Order No. 2021-41. TRW covers the municipalities of Tanza, Naic, and Trece Martires City. A total of nineteen (19) barangays traverse the said watershed. ###
