Recognizing his exceptional service in the public sector, PENR Officer Eriberto B. Saños, currently the head of DENR-PENRO Laguna, was given the Distinguished Alumnus Award for Institutional Service-Public Sector by the University of the Philippines Los Baños-College of Forestry and Natural Resources Alumni Association, Inc. (UPLB-CFNRAA) during the UPLB 105th Loyalty Day celebration on October 8, 2023 at the Charles Fuller Baker Memorial Hall, UPLB.

A Forester by profession, PENRO Saños obtained his Masteral Degree in Environmental Studies from the University of the Philippines Los Baños in 1998. Prior to that, he earned his BS in Forestry in 1986 and completed a Diploma in Agribusiness Management in 1992. Moreover, in 2016, Career Executive Service Eligible (CESE) was conferred upon PENRO Saños by the Career Executive Service Board (CESB), proving his expertise and competence in public service. 

With a remarkable track record spanning over three decades, PENRO Saños has established himself as a true environmental warrior. His unwavering commitment to the cause has earned him the prestigious title of Bayani ng Kalikasan (Environmental Hero), presented by the DENR on June 11, 2001. Prior to his present designation as PENRO of Laguna, Forester Saños held the esteemed position of PENRO of Palawan for three years. Furthermore, he became the head of the DENR-Community ENROs of Taytay and Coron in Palawan, Calaca in Batangas, and Trece Martires City in Cavite. 

In addition to his invaluable skills and proficiency in environmental topics, the recently awarded PENRO is a member of the Universal Rizalist Brotherhood Association, Inc. and has authored two significant works, namely “Pasyong Rizal” and “Pasyon ng Inang Kalikasan”. His book, “Pasyon ng Inang Kalikasan”, was previously featured in the official newsletter of the DENR, “Kalikasan”, further highlighting his expertise and contributions to both environmental protection and the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal.
