The staff from the Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) of Quezon Protected Landscape have teamed up with the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) in conducting a community clean-up activity within the said protected area on September 19, 2023.

The initiative has resulted in the collection of ten (10) sacks of garbage weighing approximately 150 kilograms, found along the 3-kilometer road from the Pagbilao-Atimonan boundary/arch going down to the PAMO of QPL. According to the volunteers' observations made during the clean-up effort, fast food takeaway containers and plastic bottles were the most common trash found to have been thrown by motorists and passersby.

Meanwhile, a coastal clean-up was also undertaken in Presidential Proclamation 2152 (Cagbalete Island), Brgy. Cagbalete I, Mauban, Quezon on September 16, 2023. The participants from the barangay of Cagbalete I, Cagbalete Island National High School, Cagbalete Resort Association Inc., and Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Tayabas were able to pile twelve (12) sacks of non-biodegradable wastes weighing approximately 480 kilograms. The clean-up activity covered at least a 1.6-kilometer stretch along the coasts of the said barangay. The collected waste was composed of mostly glass bottles, plastics, disposable diapers, clothes, and other types of waste.

These activities were in line with the celebrations of National Clean-up Month and International Coastal Clean-up Day being celebrated every September and 3rd Saturday of the same month, respectively.

CENRO Tayabas hopes that the partnership with its stakeholders will serve as an example of an effective community-driven effort to address pressing environmental challenges. The ridge-to-reef clean-up activities illustrate how collective action may result in beneficial and lasting change, and make individuals work together for a common cause.###
