Last July 26, 2021, DENR CALABARZON Regional Executive Director Nilo B. Tamoria held a meeting with all the Protected Area Superintendents (PASus), APASus, and Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) staff within the region to discuss the various issues and concerns regarding the protected areas under the National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS).

One of the main topics discussed during the meeting was the updates on the status of compliance of the NIPAS initial components and legislated protected areas on the deliverables as per Republic Act No. 11038 or the Expanded NIPAS Act of 2018, particularly: inventory of all existing facilities, creation and operationalization of Protected Area Management Boards (PAMB), formulation and updating of Protected Area Management Plans, and establishment and extent of System-Boundary demarcation.

The PASus, APASus, and PAMO staff were also capacitated regarding the conduct of a virtual PAMB meeting and the accomplishment of target activities. Moreover, DENR CALABARZON Conservation and Development Division Chief, For. Ramil J. Gutierrez discussed the directives from the Biodiversity Management Bureau on the conversion of all Memorandum of Agreements into Special-use Agreements within Protected Areas.

There are nine legislated protected areas in CALABARZON, namely, Mts. Banahaw-San Cristobal Protected Landscape, Taal Volcano Protected Landscape, Upper Maikina River Basin Protected Landscape, Mts. Palay-Palay Mataas-Na-Gulod Protected Landscape, Quezon Protected Landscape, Maulawin Spring Protected Landscape, Buenavista Protected Landscape, Pamitinan Protected Landscape, and Hinulugang Taktak Protected Landscape. There are also 14 initial components, nine of which already has its respective PAMBs.###
