Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Undersecretary Atty. Jonas Leones underscores the need to sustain the agency’s partnership with the University of the Philippines in bringing about a new breed of environment leaders during the launch of the ‘U.P. Program for Environmental Governance’ or UP-PEG on Monday (Jan. 18) at the UP Bahay Alumni in Quezon City.  The program, comprising of six modules, seeks to strengthen the competence of environmental authorities, especially those at the forefront of implementing government programs and policies on natural resources development and environmental protection.  Also in photo are (seated, from right) U.P. Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Undersecretary Demetrio Ignacio underscores the need for stronger cooperation and support in the fight against illegal wildlife trade during the national celebration of World Wildlife Day held at the Biodiversity Management Bureau in Quezon City.  With global theme, “Wildlife crime is serious, let’s get serious about wildlife crime,” the Philippine celebration was highlighted by DENR’s recognition of 112 law enforcers from the Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation and the Armed Forces of the Philippines who actively participated in the government’s anti-illegal wildlife trade operations. ###

Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Ramon J. P. Paje (left) presents a copy of the DENR’s coffee table book entitled, “Protecting our Natural Wealth, Enhancing our National Pride” to United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Executive Director Achim Steiner as a token during his visit to DENR office in Quezon City.  Paje briefed Steiner of the various programs of the DENR to mitigate the impact of climate change.###

Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Ramon J. P. Paje underscores the various programs to improve the country’s natural defenses and resiliency such as the massive watershed rehabilitation, log ban in natural forests and geohazard assessment and mapping during the climate change forum held Thursday at the National Museum in Manila. He also thanked France President François Hollande (seated, left) for the continuing support extended by his government to the country’s climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts. The forum was part of the visit to the Philippines by Pres. Hollande in preparation for the 21st Conference of Parties in Paris in December 2015.  Also in photo is French Special Envoy for the Protection of the Planet Nicolas Hulot.###
