In celebration of Earth Day 2023 with the theme “Invest in Our Planet”, CENRO Catanauan, Quezon participated in the Coastal Cleanup Activity spearheaded by the Local Government Unit (LGU) Catanauan, Quezon on April 22, 2023 in Barangays Poblacion 1, Matandang Sabang Kanluran, and Matandang Sabang Silangan, Catanauan, Quezon.

The activity aimed to raise awareness of the current state of our environment and to encourage different government agencies and coastal communities to contribute and participate in the protection and conservation of our environment and natural resources. It was participated by different government agencies such as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), employees of Bondoc Peninsula District Hospital (BPDH), Barangay officials, and Local Government Unit (LGU) Catanauan personnel.

A total of 58 sacks of non-biodegradable wastes were collected along the coastlines of Brgys. Poblacion 01, Matandang Sabang Kanluran, and Matandang

Sabang Silangan, Catanauan, Quezon. Most wastes collected were bottled water, plastic wraps, diapers, and cans.

Earth Day is an annual celebration that is conducted every 22nd day of April every year to honor the environmental movement and to raise awareness to protect the Earth’s natural resources to benefit future generations. The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970.###
