Combined operatives of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) – Lipa and the Crime Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) – Provincial Field Unit (PFU) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Batangas apprehended illegally transported premium sourced lumbers of Narra (Pterocarpus indicus) and its conveyances during the recent Holy Week break.

A total of 116 pieces of Narra lumber/square logs with an estimated volume of 2, 325.25 bdft. and estimated value of PhP 813,837.50 were apprehended, based on the inventory and valuation conducted by the authorized personnel from the Enforcement and Monitoring Section of DENR-CENRO Lipa. The said Narra lumber allegedly originated from Ilocos Region and were intended to be transported to Batangas City during the Holy Week.

Upon verification, no special permit to transport or certificate of verification was produced to support the transport of the said forest products. Criminal charges were immediately filed against the perpetrators for violation of Section 77 of P.D. 705 or the Revised Forestry Code as amended (Cutting, Gathering, and/ or Collecting timber or other Forest Products without license).

DENR-CENRO Lipa has unceasingly strengthened its partnership with crime investigation, intelligence, and law enforcement agencies to firm up efforts and strategies to protect the country’s natural resources and hold law offenders accountable. The partnership has resulted in successful operations against unauthorized transport of forest products in recent months. Strict monitoring and surveillance were also intensified during the recent long weekend in anticipation of the usual heightened unlawful transport of forest products during the holidays.
