Cavite PENR Officer Januel R. Peras, together with Manila Bay Site Coordinating/Management Office-Cavite Focal Person Marie Belle A. Igmat, joined the pilot launching of a bio-remediation project in Bacoor City.

As part of the Manila Bay Rehabilitation, the DENR-Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) CALABARZON, in coordination with Bacoor City Government, led the throwing of 1,500 pieces of bokashi mud balls to help improve the water quality of Bacoor River.

Recently, several mud balls were also thrown in Labac River System. EMB Calabarzon is planning to deploy bokashi mud balls to the other river systems of Cavite province.

Bio-remediation is a process that uses specific microorganisms to purify contaminants in water. Said bokashi mud balls contain an effective and beneficial non-pathogenic microorganism produced through a natural process. It could alleviate the degradation of water bodies brought by the rapid urban development in the province.
