LOOK: DENR CALABARZON Regional Executive Director Nilo B. Tamoria welcomes the participants of the National Workshop on Preparatory Activities for the Proposed Legislation of Protected Areas under the National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS) during the event’s opening ceremony on February 14, 2023 in San Mateo, Rizal.

Organized by the DENR Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB), the four-day workshop primarily aims to expedite the legislation of the selected initial and additional components of the NIPAS, including the Kaliwa River Watershed Forest Reserve located in Tanay, Rizal and General Nakar, Quezon. The activity is participated in by the Protected Area Superintendents of 31 protected areas all over the country along with the Chief, Conservation and Development Division of the concerned DENR Regional Offices and representatives from the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA), DENR Legal Affairs Service, BMB, and Office of Senator Loren Legarda.

Calabarzon is host to 26 protected areas, of which nine are already legislated and three are now pending in Congress.
