One (1) Philippine Scops Owl (Otus megalotis) was turned over to the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Tayabas City on January 4, 2022 and was released on the same day in Barangay Mamala I, Sariaya, Quezon by Sariaya and Candelaria Patrol Sector Teams.

The said wildlife was rescued by Mr. Alvin Magtas on January 3, 2022 along the by-pass road of Sariaya. The concerned citizen brought the owl to the Office of the City Veterinarian in Tayabas, Quezon for immediate medical inspection. Based on the findings, the wildlife is in good health condition.

Philippine Scops Owl is listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) and is protected under RA 9147, also known as the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001. Hunting, collecting, possessing and poaching of its kind is punishable under this law.
