The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Catanauan, Quezon conducted a tree planting activity as part of the HIKE, LEARN and PLANT in Brgy. Cawayan II, San Francisco, Quezon in celebration of the Environmental Awareness Month and Climate Change Consciousness Week themed “Circular Action for Climate Hope”.

The activity was participated in by the Municipal Local Government Unit (LGU) represented by its Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) representative, and Brgy. Officials. Main participants included students and teachers from San Francisco Municipal College, San Francisco Parochial Academy Inc., and Bundok Peninsula Institute Inc.

One of the objectives of the event was to inform the students on DENR’s initiatives in the protection, conservation and management of Mulanay Watershed Forest Reserve, one of the protected areas in San Francisco, Quezon. A total of 100 seedlings composed of different fruit-bearing species such as Kape (Coffea arabica), Duhat (Syzygium cumini) and Lipote (Syzygium polycephaloides) were planted within a portion of the protected area covering 0.510617 hectares. The planted seedlings will be monitored by PAMO staff to ensure 100% survival rate. 

Promotional materials such as foldable fans containing “Tayo Ang Kalikasan” logo were also distributed to the participants.
