The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) CALABARZON Regional Office and its Field Offices conducted simultaneous clean-up activities in different parts of the region on September 16, 2023 in celebration of the International Coastal Clean-Up (ICC) Day 2023 with a theme, “Clean Seas for Healthy Fisheries.” 

The Regional Office in partnership with Provincial Government - Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO), Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) through its Manila Bay Site Coordinating and Management Office 4A and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) – Cavite conducted a clean-up activity at Brgy. Capipisa, Tanza, Cavite in which a total of 30,190 kgs wastes (1,557 sacks) were collected. 

The Conservation and Development Division of the Regional Office and the Coastal and Marine Management Unit (CMMU)’s of PENRO Cavite also joined forces in the conduct of a clean-up activity entitled “Scubasurero” in the Underwater, Seagrass and Coastline areas of Sta. Mercedes, Maragondon, Cavite, which collected a total of 3,800 kgs (76 sacks) waste.

Another Scubasurero program by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Calaca along the 3-km stretch shoreline of Brgy. Butong, Taal Batangas, was conducted. Staff from the Local Government Unit of Taal, Officials of Barangay Butong, teachers and students from Our Lady of Caysasay Academy (OLCA), employees from Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resource Office (PG-ENRO) Batangas and personnel of Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Taal, participated in the said activity. A total of approximately 910 kgs (195 sacks) waste were collected. 

Meanwhile PENRO Batangas conducted a clean-up activity along the 1-km shoreline of Brgy. San Teodoro, Agoncillo, Batangas in which they collected a total of approximately 912 kgs (3 trucks) of waste, while CENRO Lipa collected a total of 1,068 kgs (89 sacks) waste along the 1.2km stretch of Brgy. Halang, Lipa City, Batangas.

On the same day, the PENRO Rizal conducted a clean-up activity along the 0.8-km stretch of Laguna Lakeside at Brgy. Malaya, Pililla Rizal. A total of approximately 17,543 kgs (100 sacks) waste were collected, consisting of plastic wastes, bottles, residual wastes and water hyacinths. 

Likewise, clean-up activities by PENRO Quezon, CENRO Calauag and CENRO Tayabas, were also conducted from the same date garnering a total of 682 kgs waste collected (127 sacks & 45 plastic trash bins) along the 1.2-km stretch of Brgy. Ransohan, Lucena City for PENRO Quezon; approximately 81 kgs (23 sacks) along the 1-km stretch of Balubad River, located at Brgy. Balubad, Atimonan, Quezon for CENRO Calauag; and, approximately 480 kgs (12 sacks) were collected along the 1.6-km stretch of PP 2152 (Cagbalete Island) at Brgy. Cagbalete I, Mauban, Quezon for CENRO Tayabas. 

Moreover, CENROs Real and Catanauan also conducted clean-up activities last September 15, 2023 along the 8-km stretch from Judith (Baywalk) to San Francisco, Polillo, Quezon and 0.5-km stretch of Brgy. Sabang-Piris, Buenavista, Quezon, respectively. A total of approximately 864 kgs (72 sacks for CENRO Real) and approximately 120 kgs wastes (16 Sacks for CENRO Catanauan), were collected. 

 

A total of 2,674 volunteers from various government and private organizations participated in the simultaneous clean-up activities conducted by DENR CALABARZON.

 

In connection, approximately 62,438.1 kgs of waste in total, were collected by the said volunteers which were taken care by the PG-ENROs, MENROs and City ENROs of respective clean-up sites for proper disposal.###
