The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Tayabas City is taking a step forward in creating a Watershed Management Council for the Lagnas River Watershed.

Lagnas River Watershed is one of the priority areas for rehabilitation of DENR and has an area of 4,025.23 hectares which covers a portion of the Mts. Banahaw-San Cristobal Protected Landscape (MBSCPL). It is located within the municipalities of Sariaya and Lucban, and the City of Tayabas, all within the province of Quezon.

In a meeting on August 17, 2023 with the identified stakeholders, their duties and responsibilities intended for the Lagnas River Watershed were discussed as they reviewed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to be entered into by their respective institutions. The agreement is in relation to the DENR-Department Administrative Order No. 2021-41 or the Guidelines in the Creation of Watershed Management Councils that has been presented to the stakeholders by the representatives from the Conservation and Development Division (CDD) of DENR CALABARZON Region.

Once the agreement is ratified after a series of reviews and finalization, the Watershed Management Council will serve as an oversight and advisory body on watershed planning and program/project implementation. The council’s initial agenda will involve the creation of a Watershed Management Planning Team (WMPT) for the preparation of an Integrated Watershed Management Plan to include, among others, protection, restoration and rehabilitation activities, water quality monitoring, and delineation of buffer zone of the Lagnas River Watershed.###
