The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) CALABARZON joined the nationwide simultaneous celebration of World Environment Day 2023 themed โ€œNo to Waste: Advancing Circular Economy to #beatplasticpollutionโ€ on June 5, 2023.

DENR CALABARZON Regional Executive Director Nilo Tamoria said the simultaneous tree planting and cleanup activities conducted in different parts of the region and of the whole country is a collaborative effort among the various stakeholders and partners of the department.

โ€œKabilin-bilinan ng ating Kalihim Antonia Loyzaga na ang activity na ito ay hindi DENR activity kung hindi aktibidad po ng lahat ng may taya dahil ang usapin po ng kalikasan ay hindi lamang usapin ng DENR kung hindi usapin ng buong taumbayan, kaya tayo-tayo rin po ang makikinabang dito at tayo-tayo rin po ang magmamalasakit at magtutulungan,โ€ he said.

Led by Dir. Nilo Tamoria, DENR CALABARZON Regional Office joined the DENR-Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Rizal, Sapinit Watershed Settlers Association, Inc., Wawa JVCo, and concerned LGUs in the conduct of a tree planting activity within the Protected Area Community-Based Resource Management Agreement (PACBRMA) area of the said Peopleโ€™s Organization (PO) located in Sitio Sapinit, Brgy. San Juan, Antipolo City.

Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) CALABARZON partnered with some quarry permittees in the conduct of simultaneous tree planting activities in the provinces of Batangas and Rizal, particularly: in Taysan, Batangas with Republic Cement & Building Materials, Inc.; in Antipolo City, Rizal with Rapid City Realty and Development Corporation, Island Quarry and Aggregates Corporation, Teresa Marble Corporation, Gozon Development Corporation, and Hardrock Aggregates, Inc.; in Angono, Rizal with Helix Aggregates, Inc.; in Teresa, Rizal with Republic Cement & Building Materials, Inc.; and in Montalban, Rizal with Montalban Millex Aggregates Corporation, and Majestic Earth Core Ventures, Inc.

Environmental Management Bureau CALABARZON initiated a cleanup activity within Imus-Ylang-Ylang-Rio Grande Water Quality Management Area particularly along Ragatan, Brgy. Anabu I-G, Imus City, Cavite. The said activity was participated in by PENRO Cavite, Imus City ENRO and BLGU, Maynila Water Services, Inc., Dalebo Construction and Gen. Merchandise, and WalterMart.

In partnership with San Miguel Aerocity Inc. and Sambayanang Pangangasiwa ng Kagubatan ng Pinagsanhan Maragondon Inc., PENRO Cavite organized a tree planting activity within the National Greening Program (NGP) graduated site in Brgy. Pinagsanhan, Maragondon, Cavite.

PENRO Batangas, CENRO Calaca and LGU-Balayan joined forces in conducting a coastal cleanup activity in Brgy. Carenahan, Balayan, Batangas. CENRO Lipa, on the other hand, simultaneously conducted mangrove planting and coastal cleanup activities along the coasts of Verde Island Passage in Brgy. Lagadlarin, Lobo, Batangas in partnership with Samahan ng Malilit na Mangingisda sa Pangangalaga ng Kalikasan sa Brgy. Lagadlarin Peopleโ€™s Organization and Lobo LGU.

PENRO Laguna and CENRO Sta. Cruz collaborated in the conduct of a tree planting activity within the 259-ha. NGP timber plantation site in Brgy. Tala, Rizal, Laguna. The said activity was participated in by the LGU of Rizal, Laguna, Samahang Ekolohiya ng UPLB, PNP Rizal, BFP Rizal, Laguna University, University of Manila, Card MRI Development Institute, San Pablo Bodies Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Society of Filipino Foresters Inc.-Laguna Chapter, and Blue Circle.

Likewise, PENRO Quezon and CENRO Tayabas City spearheaded a coastal cleanup activity in Brgy. Barra, Lucena City, which was participated in by Agila Kalikasan (AK-47), Brgy. Officials of Barra, and other government agencies. CENRO Calauag conducted a coastal cleanup activity in Brgy. Mal-ay, Lopez, Quezon together with BLGU of Mal-ay, Gumaca Tree Planters, and Pallet Makers Agriculture Cooperative, while CENRO Real conducted a river cleanup along Kinanliman River in Brgy. Poblacion I, Real, Quezon alongside the municipal and barangay LGUs concerned and Southern Luzon State University. Moreover, CENRO Catanauan conducted a tree planting activity in Brgy. Ilayang Yuni, Mulanay, Quezon in partnership with Brgy. Ibabang Yuni at Ilayang Yuni CBFM Farmers Association.

World Environment Day was initiated by the United Nations by virtue of UN General Assembly Resolution No. 2994 dated December 15, 1972, and was adopted in the Philippines through Proclamation No. 1149, series of 1973 signed by former President Ferdinand Marcos. The said event is celebrated every 5th day of June of each year to promote environmental awareness and action.
