The DENR CALABARZON through its Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Group in partnership with the Environmental Management Bureau CALABARZON intensified its campaign on Ecological Solid Waste Management (ESWM).

In January 2022, the DENR CALABARZON has released its ESWM Best Practices Publication (access the material through https://tinyurl.com/4ASWMPub) which highlights various success stories and best practices on solid waste management for the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon.

DENR Regional Executive Director Nilo B. Tamoria reiterated that the Region produces more wastes than its Sanitary Landfills could accommodate. According to the report of EMB CALABARZON as of December 2021, the region generates more than 5,700 tons of wastes per day.

The virtual launching of the publication held last January 28, 2022 was conducted in celebration of the Zero Waste Month. It was also complemented with a webinar on ESWM for the Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Officers (PG-ENROs) and Municipal ENROS (MENROs) of Local Government Units to apprise them with the status of ESWM in the Region. Engr. Zarah Mae Aday of the ESWM Section of EMB CALABARZON shared the Region’s solid waste generation profile, status of the review and evaluation of the 10-year Solid Waste Management Plans, EMB-funded MRFs, status of the Sanitary Landfills, closure of open dumpsites, and their IECs on SWM.

Aside from the publication and webinar, other on-going activities for ESWM include the massive online campaign on ESWM for the month of March; and the production of Mobile Museum Boxes for the Priority Rivers of CALABARZON in partnership with the National Museum of the Philippines which is set to be launched in April.

In celebration of the Earth Month this April, the Pera sa Basura ng Bata (PBB) Roadshow will commence with its Regional Launching followed by Provincial SWM Campaign launchings in the third quarter. A virtual gallery for the Mobile Museum Boxes will also be produced for greater public access despite the pandemic.
