Personnel of the Monitoring and Enforcement Section (MES) of DENR-CENRO Calauag engaged in a 4-day training on Wildlife Agency Law Enforcement Reporting Tool (WildALERT) System facilitated by the Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) on April 18-21, 2023 at Hotel Dominique, Tagaytay City, Cavite.

The 4-day training was a rollout of WildALERT to capacitate wildlife enforcers and boost wildlife protection within PENROs and CENROs in DENR CALABARZON.

WildALERT has already been introduced in some DENR offices in the Philippines. It is an innovation developed by the DENR and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Protect Wildlife Project that aims to improve wildlife law enforcement in the country through the use of a mobile application and a reporting management platform.

The application aids the DENR personnel and law enforcement partners in rescuing wildlife species and centralizing real-time wildlife crime reports. The mobile app also features a library of flora (plant species) and fauna (animal species) for easy reference of field personnel.

The training covered the features of the WildALERT System, including its types of users, system flow, and various platforms (mobile app, CRM, and public website) that the system facilitates. Further, hands-on exercises on the usage of said platforms were demonstrated.

CENRO Calauag, headed by CENR Officer Joselito D. Barros, looks forward to improved wildlife protection and prompt reporting of wildlife crimes within its area of responsibility since its personnel underwent training on the WildALERT System.
