Los Baños, Laguna – In observance and celebration of National Women’s Month with this year’s theme “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society”, PENRO Laguna led by the designated Gender and Development (GAD) focal person has organized and arranged various activities intended to celebrate gender in all forms.

Among the lined-up activities to celebrate women’s month is the month-long hanging of the official banner of National Women’s Month, an exhibit installed in the office’s GAD Corner featuring legal mandates on women’s rights and participation of personnel in Purple Wednesdays (wearing of clothes, shoes, or anything purple during all Wednesday of March) as well as joining Purple Your Icon and Social Media to heighten awareness and intensify advocacy campaign on the celebration. Moreover, PENRO Laguna actively participated in the webinar on “Orientation on Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) in Climate Change” by the National Gender and Development Focal Point System (GADFPS).

In the Philippines, the Women’s Month Celebration has since served as a platform to emphasize women’s achievements and discuss continuing and emerging women’s empowerment and gender equality issues and concerns, challenges, and commitments. The theme WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society is aligned with the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028 which aims for “deep economic and social transformation to reinvigorate job creation and accelerate poverty reduction by steering the economy back on a high-growth path.” The plan also underscores that growth must be inclusive where an environment that provides equal opportunities is present and every person regardless of gender can participate fully in an innovative and globally competitive economy.
