DENR-CENRO Calaca Conservation and Development Section, led by Senior Ecosystems Management Specialist Elizabeth Galit, conducted community mobilization for marine turtle conservation in Barangay Natipuan, Nasugbu, Batangas.

Community mobilization is one of the activities under the Coastal and Marine Ecosystem Management Program (CMEMP) of the DENR which aims to form a local team that will concentrate on monitoring and patrolling for the conservation and protection of marine turtles. This activity includes discussion and presentation of the Marine Turtle status in the Philippines, proper handling of marine turtle, protection of marine turtle eggs, and re-organization of the Pawikan response team in Brgy. Natipuan.

The Pawikan response team is composed of a Team Leader/Coordinator who acts as a reporter for the government agencies, a Data Collector who prepares all the materials required to address marine turtle concerns, and a Documenter who records and fills out all the necessary information on the forms provided for marine turtle data.

Information Education Communication (IEC) materials “Iligtas ang Ating Pawikan sa Pagka-ubos” produced by CENRO Calaca were also given to the participants during the conduct of the activity.
