Los Baños, Laguna – In observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month with the theme, “Sambayanang Pilipino, Nagkakaisa tungo sa katatagan at maunlad na kinabukasan” for the month of July 2022, PENRO Laguna conducted lectures during the Basic Citizen Military Training (BCMT) CC 03-2022 at 4th Regional Community Defense Group, Reserve Command, Philippine Army in Camp General Macario Sakay Los Baños, Laguna on July 21, 2022 attended by 101 participants composed of 85 men and 16 women from CALABARZON as part of their base expansion of the Regular Force and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR).

The discussion started with the introduction of the laws, rules, and regulations on forestry: Expanded National Integrated Protected Area Systems Act (RA 11038), Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act (RA 9147), Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines (PD 705), DENR Administrative Order No. 97-32 and Nursery Establishment Plantation. The lecture further tackled the various policies on mining as well as the current state of the environment globally and locally. Aside from that, principles and practices of solid and liquid waste management were also presented.

Discussions were made by the officials of Provincial Environment Management Unit (PEMU), Forest Extension Officer, Supervising Ecosystem Management Specialist/APASu-Mts. Banahaw San-Cristobal Protected Landscape Laguna Side, and Senior Ecosystem Management Specialist/Manila Bay Site Coordinating and Management Office/Focal Person.

It was an interactive discussion with participants which gave them new learnings about the different Philippine laws, principles, and practices solely focusing on environmental protection and management.
