The DENR-CENRO Calauag, Quezon stays on its commitment to reforest portions of Lopez Watershed Forest Reserve (LWFR) through collaborative efforts with its stakeholders.

In the recently concluded activity for the celebration of World Water Day themed “Water for Peace,” the Conservation and Development Section (CDS) of CENRO Calauag joined Lopez Water District (LWD) in a tree growing activity in the protected area, ultimately aiming at expanding the forest cover within the watershed reservation.

The said activity was part of the tree growing activity first initiated by both offices in 2023. Native and fruit-bearing trees were planted to compensate for last year’s planted seedlings’ mortality in the planting site located in an open uncultivated area of LWFR.

Participants, consisting of 32 males and 13 females from Lopez Water District, DENR-CENRO Calauag, and Kappa Epsilon Fraternity-Calauag and Lopez Chapters, planted 240 seedlings composed of Batino (Alstonia macrophylla), Kalamansi (Citrus microcarpa), Kalumpit (Terminalia macrocarpa), Mango (Mangifera indica), Narra (Pterocarpus indicus), Rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum), and White Nato (Pouteria villamilii).

Lopez Water District General Manager Genoviva Lorilyn T. Imperial stressed that LWFR is of prime importance as it supplies water to 3,498 households in 14 barangays of Lopez and two barangays of Calauag, Quezon. Hence, she assured continuous monitoring of the planting site in the following years.

Ms. Jocelyn V. Barreno, on behalf of the participating organization, the Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, also swore to support the DENR campaign to reforest the denuded forest areas under the jurisdiction of CENRO Calauag.

CENRO Calauag continuously spearheads initiatives and fosters stakeholder engagement in the activities, programs and projects anchored to the DENR mandates leading to sustainable development.
