CENRO Calauag’s Conservation and Development Section (CDS) personnel headed by EMS II Novet Joy S. Pantalunan, the concurrent Protected Area Superintendent of Calauag Watershed Forest Reserve (CWFR), paid a courtesy call to Quezon Province 4th District Representative, Atty. Keith Micah D.L. Tan through a meeting held at the latter’s office in the House of Representatives, Batasan Hills, Quezon City.

The same was an appointment requested by Representative Tan’s office to further solicit additional facts aiding the passage of a law to protect and efficiently manage Calauag Watershed.

CWFR is a declared watershed reservation under Presidential Proclamation No. 367, signed by the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos on January 2, 1939. It is under the management of the LGU of Calauag, a municipality situated within the territorial jurisdiction of CENRO Calauag, Quezon.

This watershed reservation has a total area of 327.86 hectares, with an approximately 36.79 hectares Protected Area (PA) proposed to be established under E-NIPAS, after it had undergone a Protected Area Suitability Assessment (PASA) in 2022.

Such assessment was conducted by CENRO Calauag in CWFR since the latter is an initial component of ENIPAS and is to comply with the provisions stipulated in DENR Administrative Order No. 2019-05 or the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 7586, or the National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS) Act of 1992, as amended by Republic Act No. 11038, or the Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System (ENIPAS) Act of 2018.

Last year, the CWFR established Biodiversity Monitoring System (BMS) Stations to monitor and improve the information available for decision-makers in the management of the area.

If the passage of the law for the CWFR succeeds, it will be renamed as Calauag Protected Landscape.###
