The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) CALABARZON in partnership with Environmental Law Enforcement Protection Service (ELEPS) and various agencies such as the Local Government Units (LGUs), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region IV-A, Department of Local Interior Government (DILG) Region IV-A, Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other government agencies conducted their final briefing meeting in preparatory to their Simultaneous issuance of Show Cause Order (SCO) on the illegal occupants and structures within the Marikina-Rizal-Quezon (MARILAQUE) Highway as part of the Department’s effort in strengthening the implementation of the environmental laws within the region.

The said activity aims to inventory all the occupants and structures within the MARILAQUE Highway and check the legal documents owned by each occupant through the issuance of  Show Cause Order (SCO). All occupants were given SCO which requires them to present an explanation or legal documents justifying their stay in the area.

During the activity, there were Three (3) teams assigned to the provinces of Laguna, Rizal, and Quezon that cover the MARILAQUE Highway for which a total of 287 SCOs issued. In the team assigned in Laguna, the total number of issued SCOs was 56 covering the Barangays of Laurel, Santiago, and Cueva, Santa Maria, Laguna. Meanwhile, the team assigned to Rizal has issued a total of 140 SCOs that cover the Barangay Sampaloc Tanay, Rizal. Lastly, in team Quezon has issued a total of 91 SCOs that cover the Barangay Magsaysay.

All occupants who received SCOs were given a certain period of time to respond and prove the legality of their stay within the area. The occupants that fail to prove to respond or the legality of their stay will be given a Cease and Desist Order (CDO) or Notice to Vacate that will order to stop the occupant from continuing their stay within the area. ###
