DENR CENRO Calaca Enforcement and Monitoring Section staff has coordinated with the Municipal Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) and Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO) in the municipalities of Nasugbu, Lian, Calatagan and Lemery Batangas which are under the Area of jurisdiction of CENRO Calaca. The said activity was conducted to monitor the effect of Typhoon Goring (International Name Saola)

The occurrence of landslides triggered by heavy rains was monitored in Nasugbu-Magallanes/East-West Road connecting Brgy. Bulihan and Brgy. Butucan, Nasugbu Batangas. According to the report, the landslide occurred on Sunday night (August 27, 2023) which totally blocked the road at approximately 50 meters covered with a thick mixture of muddy soil, rock and boulders, and fallen trees. MDRMMO Nasugbu was in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the execution of clearing operations. In the meantime, the said road will remain impassable for all types of vehicles.

On the other hand, a portion of Nasugbu-Lian-Calatagan Road pavement and shoulders collapsed. Heavy types of vehicles and commuters were advised to take alternative routes.

Meanwhile, a flood occurred on the National Highway located in Barangay Malinis, Lemery Batangas. After the flood subsided, debris was left along the highway and were collected by the assigned personnel from the LGU Lemery.

River flooding was also reported at Brgy. Lucsuhin, Calatagan Batangas. Heavy rains resulted in excessive run-off from the upland causing water overflows on the bridge. Wastes and tree logs were immediately cleared by the LGU after the water subsided.

DENR CENRO CALACA remains vigilant during times of natural disasters. Patrol Sectors and Quick Response Team were dispatched to closely monitor and coordinate with LGUs, NGOs, Law Enforcement agencies, and other partners within CENRO Calaca jurisdiction.###
