The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) CALABARZON, through the Conservation and Development Division, Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Group, Regional Youth Desk, and DENR-CENRO Real, Quezon, conducted an activity titled โ€œThe Search for Philippine Eagle: A Race to Conservationโ€ on June 7, 2023 in Real, Quezon in celebration of the 25th Philippine Eagle Week themed โ€œUnity in Action: Achieving Success Togetherโ€.

The activity primarily aimed to creatively introduce to the participants some basic information about the Philippine Eagle, and to deliver strong awareness of the plight of the countryโ€™s national treasure as well as the solutions on how to protect and conserve the same.

A total of 20 Grades 8-12 students, 10 male and 10 female, from Labayat National High School participated in the said activity which was likened to the popular interactive competition โ€œThe Amazing Raceโ€. The race consisted of six stations centered on the behavior, diet, range and distribution, and conservation of the forest raptor.

During the one-day celebration, DENR CALABARZON Regional Eagle Watch Team head, Forester Raymund Mercurio also delivered a lecture that put emphasis on the mandate of the department to protect and conserve the national bird as well as the important role of the community and other stakeholders in guarding its remaining population.

Proclamation No. 615, s. 1995 declared the Philippine Eagle, scientifically known as the ๐˜—๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ค๐˜ฐ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜จ๐˜ข ๐˜ซ๐˜ข๐˜ง๐˜ง๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜บ๐˜ช, as the National Bird of the Philippines, recognizing the same as โ€œa natural treasureโ€ that can only be found only in the country and โ€œa source of national prideโ€, and appreciating the immense ecological, aesthetic, educational, historical, recreational and scientific value it offers to the nation and the Filipino people.
