In observance of World Wildlife Day with this year's theme "Connecting People and Planet: Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation", the DENR-Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Cavite through its Protected Area and Biodiversity Unit conducted a Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) campaign through an environmental lecture to Grade 9 students, teachers, and faculty of Governor Luis A. Ferrer Jr. East National High School located in Brgy. San Francisco, General Trias City.

The lecture included topics regarding wildlife, its importance, its current global and local status, and the salient features of the Republic Act No. 9147 otherwise known as “Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001”. EMS I Abegael V. Rodrin explained also that the 2024 celebration of World Wildlife Day provides an opportunity to highlight the people who are making a difference in terms of wildlife conservation and to celebrate the bridge that Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) has formed, making a significant contribution to sustainability, wildlife, and biodiversity conservation.

The participants were encouraged to support the conservation of wildlife species through the Endangered Species Coalition. They were reminded that they can: volunteer with endangered species conservation organizations, reduce their carbon footprint, protect ecosystems and habitats, report harassment and cruelty toward wildlife, promote organic gardening, plant native plant species, never patronize products made from threatened/endangered animals or live animals and plants, travel with a mindful and compassionate attitude, and choose alternatives to single-use plastic. They were also encouraged to raise their voices to support threatened and endangered species.

Head Teacher I Geselle A. Teaño emphasized the importance of sharing acquired knowledge and mobilizing peers to become advocates for wildlife conservation.

The said activity served as a catalyst for inspiring youth leadership in environmental sustainability, reaffirming PENRO Cavite's commitment towards nurturing a generation catalyzing positive change in wildlife conservation, and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come
