CENRO Real, Quezon released a rescued juvenile Reticulated python (Malayopython reticulatus) within Presidential Proclamation 1636 on November 7, 2023.

Wildlife Enforcement Officer (WEO) Melissa Salvan received a chat message from a concerned citizen of the rescued wildlife in the possession of Robert Asa, 17 years old and a resident of So. Dakil, Brgy. Pandan, Real, Quezon.

According to Robert Asa, he found the python near his house on October 25, 2023. He was captivated by the wildlife and planned to take care of the python. His landlady convinced him to turn-over the animal to proper authority. They sought the help of a friend to inform the DENR-CENRO Real, Quezon of the reticulated python. The WEO explained to Robert Asa the laws in the Conservation and Protection of Wildlife including the violations and penalties involving the possession of wildlife.

Due to non-availability of a veterinary doctor for this kind of wildlife, the WEO examined and assessed the reticulated python for wounds and ticks. The reticulated python was assessed to be a juvenile, measuring 110 centimeters in length. No wounds nor ticks were found and was considered healthy. Thus, the immediate release of the python was deemed necessary.
