PENR Officer Januel R. Peras represented DENR PENRO Cavite and served as guest speaker during the launching of an e-vehicle charging station held at the Basement Parking near Driver’s Lounge of SM Trece Martires City. 

Said launching was also graced by no less than the Provincial Governor of Cavite Hon. Jonvic Remulla together with the City Mayor of Trece Martires Hon. Gemma Lubigan and Provincial Officer of DOST Ms. Gilda De Jesus as well as Officials from the SM Supermalls. 

Provincial Governor Remulla emphasized in his speech that climate change is real. Hence, this kind of program would help alleviate the adverse impacts of climate change. He also bragged that the on-going construction of the provincial capitol would be the country’s first building  powered by solar energy. 

Mayor Lubigan also commended this program as it would encourage people to use an e-vehicle for a better and clean environment. She also emphasized the vital role of the youth in this kind of endeavor because most of the attendees during the event were students from various schools.

PENRO Peras articulately explained how global warming occurs in the atmosphere which causes climate change. He also shared that automobiles in the country have rapidly increased due to emerging demand for convenient transportation brought by fast urban development. He said that the greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector in the Philippines contribute to a 12 percent increase from the previous year's total emissions. As a way to address the generation of greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector, the use of electronic vehicles and other related programs which highlight efficient use of the country’s energy resources is a big step to lessen air pollution and alleviate the adverse impacts of climate change.

The launching of the EV charging station is a product of SM Supermalls’ continuous partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in assisting the government accelerate its renewable energy and sustainability initiatives. ###
