As part of the effort to assist various environmental projects, DENR-Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Tayabas City provided assorted forest and fruit trees to the constituents of the 3rd District of Quezon Province.

The seedlings distribution activity, which took place in Unisan, Quezon, was spearheaded by the Office of Hon. Reynante Arrogancia, District Representative through the “Aruga sa Kalikasan” program joined by several People’s Organizations from the municipalities of Padre Burgos, Agdangan and Unisan, Quezon.

“Para sa kaalaman ng lahat, 10,000 seedlings ang provided ng CENRO Tayabas na binubuo ng Narra (2,000), Calamansi (1,000), Cacao (2,000), Coffee (2,000), and other forest o indigenous species (3000).” Tayabas CENR Officer Cyril A. Coliflores said during the event.

According to Coliflores, a portion of the 10,000 seedlings from the department were also distributed to neighboring municipalities within the 3rd district. He also discussed some techniques to prolong the life and fruit yield of the grafted Calamansi seedlings that were distributed to the farmers. He highlighted that it is important to consider the long-term maintenance of the seedlings to ensure that the benefits are sustained over time.

Forester Ronilo L. Salac, DENR-PENR Officer of Quezon province challenged the participants to ensure the survival of the seedlings as part of the strategies in combating climate change. According to him, planting trees is an effective way to combat climate change as trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere which could otherwise go and disrupt the protective ozone layer.

He added that, when it comes to the long-term impact of planting trees, it is more important to focus on the survival and growth of the planted trees rather than the sheer number of trees planted.

The seedlings were requested by the Office of Hon. Arrogancia from CENRO Tayabas as part of their campaigns to support environmental welfare and protection initiatives.

During his speech, Arrogancia recognizes the assistance provided by the department and requests to have more seedlings in the future. “Kami po ay masayang-masaya na ito po ay tanggapin upang itanim ng ating mga magsasaka.” he added.

“Huwag niyo pong kalilimutang may mga pananim rin pong malalaking puno na ang purpose po nito ay para maprotektahan ang ating kapaligiran nang tayo ay may pansangga sa mga bagyo sa hinaharap.” Arrogancia said to the farmers.

Municipal Mayor Ruben B. Uy Diokno of Padre Burgos, Municipal Mayor Ferdinand P. Adulta of Unisan, Quezon, and other officials, Municipal Agriculture Offices (MAO) and Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Offices (MENRO) of the three municipalities, were among the attendees in the event.
