In celebration of World Wildlife Day 2023, DENR-PENRO Quezon organized a lecture about Republic Act 9147 (Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act) and the importance of protecting wildlife.

Aiming to raise awareness about the critical role of wildlife in maintaining the ecological balance and biodiversity, the activity was attended by Agila Kalikasan AK-47, PNP Quezon Maritime Group, and other DENR personnel. The participants learned about the allowable practice of protecting and conserving wildlife, as well as the penalties for violating RA 9147.

DENR-PENRO Quezon Conservation and Development Section Chief, Salud Pangan discussed the significance of World Wildlife Day as well as many concerns to preserve the wildlife and its habitats. She emphasized the need for everyone to take responsibility to ensure wildlife survival.

Moreover, DENR-PENRO Quezon Monitoring and Enforcement Section Chief, Janeth Salazar discussed the accomplishments and procedures on wildlife turn-over and transfer of custody and responsibility from DENR to accredited wildlife rescue centers or sanctuaries. The turnover process ensures the proper care and rehabilitation of rescued wildlife and its eventual release back into its natural habitat.

The event also included opening remarks by Mr. Galo C. Martinez, Jr., Chief of Management Services Division, who expressed gratitude to the attendees for their commitment to wildlife conservation and protection.

To further promote awareness about World Wildlife Day, leaflets produced by PENRO Quezon Information Officer were distributed to the participants. The leaflets contain some information on the theme for this year's World Wildlife Day, and threatened Philippine flora and fauna.

A total of 30 participants composed of 12 females and 18 males attended the lecture, of whom five are senior citizens and one is a youth.
