The DENR-CENRO Calauag, Quezon has participated in a joint DENR-LGU meeting for intensification of forest protection activities within critical watersheds extending in the boundaries of Quezon and Camarines Norte provinces, held at Villa Eusebia, Labo, Camarines Norte, on 10 November 2022.

The joint meeting stemmed from the intention of residents of Barangay Malaya, in the municipality of Labo, Camarines Norte, to protect the forested areas within the stretch of their barangay.

Through a resolution passed by the Sangguniang Barangay of Malaya, their goal of having a dialogue between two Local Government Units (LGUs), Tagkawayan and Labo, located in the provinces of Quezon and Camarines Norte, respectively, has put into place.

Hon. Severino Francisco, Jr., Mayor of Labo, supported the initiative of Barangay Malaya which was eventually coordinated with the PENRO Daet, Camarines Norte.

The request of having a dialogue meeting between the 2 LGUs has reached the concerned DENR offices, the PENRO Quezon and CENRO Calauag; since an extent within their territorial jurisdiction in Tagkawayan is covered by the subject watershed known as “Labo River Watershed”.

During the undertaking, PENRO Daet and CENRO Calauag presented a per office situationer and profile pertaining to their areas of jurisdiction. These include their office accomplishments related to the law enforcement and implementation of forest protection activities, and other programs and actions regarding environmental protection and monitoring of natural resources. Also, way forward activities to be undertaken by both offices were discussed in the presentation.

Meanwhile, to improve the conservation and protection measures within Labo River Watershed, the CENRO Calauag is open for a joint initiative with the concerned LGUs and DENR Offices for the characterization and vulnerability assessment of the Labo River Watershed.

PNP Labo and BLGU officials of barangays adjacent to the Labo River Watershed in the towns of Tagkawayan and Labo also attended the meeting.

The next tentative dialogue meeting was scheduled in the last week of January 2023 in Tagkawayan, Quezon, to be hosted by the LGU of Tagkawayan.
