Orientation and Stakeholder Consultation concerning the formulation of Integrated Watershed Management Plan (IWMP) of Palico Watershed was conducted between DENR CENRO Calaca and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Nasugbu on February 8, 2022.

Palico Watershed covers six (6) municipalities of Batangas: Nasugbu, Lian, Tuy, Balayan, Calaca and Laurel. Formulation of Integrated Watershed Management Plan (IWMP) of Palico Watershed aims to ensure that all watershed programs and projects achieve and maximize environmental, socio-cultural, and economic benefits through holistic, participatory management and effective interventions to ensure that multiple goods and services are produced for present and future generations.

Present in the said activity were Supv. EMS Agnes M. Sune and Conservation and Development Section (CDS) of DENR CENRO Calaca headed by Sr. EMS Elizabeth Galit, Municipal Heads of LGU Nasugbu, Captain of Barangays within the Palico Watershed, National Irrigation Association (NIA), and Irrigators Association Federation.

Forester Karen Sotomango of DENR CENRO Calaca oriented the LGUs which includes the presentation on the Introduction of Watershed, Watershed Characterization and Vulnerability Assessment (WCVA) and Integrated Watershed Management Plan (IWMP) procedures. This was followed by the stakeholder consultation spearheaded by For. Galit wherein the stakeholders stated the problems/issues in their respective areas specifically for Water Management, Management of Vulnerable Areas, and Management of Freshwater/Coastal or Marine Ecosystems.  Possible causes of these problems were discussed as well as their recommendations to address these issues.

Further meetings will be conducted this year for other Municipalities concerned in Palico Watershed.
