In line with the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) that is being observed from November 25 to December 12 of every year, DENR CENRO Lipa conducted a Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) activity on December 01, 2021 This year’s theme “Filipino Marespeto: Safe Spaces, Kasali Tayo”, elevates the campaign to positive advocacy as it enjoins everyone to pursue the common vision of a community free from violence against women and girls. Legal Officer Atty. Janice Gonzales discussed with the personnel of CENRO Lipa the provisions of Republic Act No. 9262 or the “Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004” and of Republic Act No. 11313 or “Safe Spaces Act” (Bawal Bastos Law). The different types of violence and gender-based sexual harassment, as well as the prescriptive periods, fines, and penalties pertaining to cases filed on such offenses, were discussed. Atty. Gonzales also highlighted the gender-based online sexual harassment especially during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic with many spending their time in the digital realm. CENRO Lipa personnel participated in the discussion and vowed to do their part in making all spaces especially their workplaces safe through actions committed to public service and as an individual.

The 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) highlights the RA No. 11313 or “Safe Spaces Act”. The campaign focuses on all forms of gender-based sexual harassment committed in public spaces, educational or training institutions, as well as online spaces. CENRO Lipa supports the anti-VAW advocacy to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls and aims to foster a community that has zero tolerance for all types of violence and upholds the commitment to address all forms of gender-based violence.

The staff and personnel were enjoined to wear orange-colored shirts in support of the call and to attract and spark the public’s curiosity which provides opportunities to explain and to declare support to the Anti-VAW advocacy. This will serve as a catalyst for public discourse and for disseminating the message of zero-tolerance for VAW. Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) material in the form of a banner bearing this year’s theme was also placed in the DENR-CENRO Lipa building for public viewing. Please note that COVID-19 health protocols were observed during the program. ###
