For May of this year, PENRO Cavite through the Coastal and Marine Management Unit (CMMU) and partner agencies together with volunteer divers discovered a 160.132 square meters’ Coral Garden within the Core Zone of Ternate Marine Park.

The same team, in collaboration with LGU Ternate, visited the said coral garden to conduct monitoring activity on October 15, 2021. Unfortunately, the divers observed that some soft corals were devastated by the strong waves brought by Typhoon Jolina that traversed the Province in the month of September 2021. On the brighter side, the table and hard corals as well as the giant clams, and other marine species seen five months ago were still visible during the latest dive.

Simultaneous underwater clean-up activity and Information Education Campaign drive were also undertaken for the rehabilitation and further conservation of significant ecosystems in the Province. A total of twelve (12) sacks with an approximate weight of 35kgs were gathered during the activity. The waste collected will be properly disposed of by LGU Ternate to their accredited disposal facility.

Moreover, health and safety measures against COVID-19 were properly observed and practiced during the activity. ###
