The DENR-PENRO Laguna, headed by PENRO Venerando U. Garcia, showed their support to the kite flying competition recently hosted by the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) of Laguna.

The said event was part of the province’s weeklong ANILAG Festival held in Santa Cruz, Laguna from March 10-17, 2024. Kite-flying was one of the competitions that took place alongside Zumba dance, sportsfest for PWDs, and practical shooting.

Under the expert guidance of PENRO Garcia, and alongside esteemed judges Mr. Orlando Ongkiko and Ms. Yolanda Esguerra, President and Kite Designer of Kite Association of the Philippines, respectively, participants soared with creativity as they unleashed their imagination with kites crafted solely from recycled materials.

According to PG-ENRO, the underlying objectives of this competition are twofold: firstly, to champion the utilization of recyclable materials, and secondly, to advocate for the transition towards harnessing renewable wind energy to fuel households and industries. This dual-purpose initiative not only promotes environmentally sustainable practices but also contributes to the emergence of Laguna Province as a dynamic hub for renewable energy, fostering a greener and more resilient economy.

Robinson Orquia from Pila, Laguna soared to victory, securing the championship and the grand prize of P25,000.00. Close on his heels, John Tristan Kolimlim and John Philip Acuisa, both hailing from Pila and Calamba City, secured the second and third places, taking home prizes worth P20,000.00 and P15,000.00, respectively.

ANILAG, short for “Ani ng Laguna”, is a weeklong festival celebrated annually in Laguna, Philippines that has been dubbed as the “Mother of All Festivals”.
