DENR-CENRO Sta. Cruz personnel under the National Greening Program (NGP) and Presidential Proclamation (PP) No. 1636 conducted a lecture in preparation for El Niño season and in observance of Fire Prevention Month 2024 themed “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi ka Nag-iisa”, last March 20-21, 2024 in Brgy. Paoo, Sta. Maria, Laguna and Brgy. Kapatalan, Siniloan, Laguna. 

The participant partner People’s Organizations (POs) namely, Calangay Organic Farmers Association (COFAS), Samahan ng Magbubukid ng Canaway (CANAWAY), and Famy Upland Farmers Marketing Cooperative (FUFMC), were informed on the adverse effects of El Niño to their respective NGP plantations located in PP No. 1636, and were capacitated on forest fire prevention actions such as the establishment of fire lines and fire breaks and mulching. 

The representatives and board members of partner POs were advised to be vigilant and observant of possible signs of forest fires during the conduct of foot patrolling and other maintenance and protection activities, especially during the dry season. 

Fire Prevention Month is observed every March pursuant to Presidential Proclamation (PP) No. 115-A. Spearheaded by the Bureau of Fire Protection, it aims to raise awareness regarding the alarming increase in fire incidents nationwide, and to alleviate such occurrences.
