In observance of the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) 2023 with a theme, “Clean Seas for Healthy Fisheries: Sustainably Feed the Global Population”, DENR PENRO Cavite through the Manila Bay Site Coordinating/Management Office (MBSCMO) spearheaded the conduct of a clean-up activity within the 7,200 square meters (sq.m) coastal area of Barangay Sasahan, Naic, Cavite on September 16, 2023.

A total of 137 sacks weighing 1,104.4 kilograms (kgs) or 1.22 tons of waste were collected during the clean-up activity. Said waste consists of different types of plastics, pet bottles, footwear, glass bottles, cloth, rugs, single-used plastics, submerged waste, and residual wastes like napkins and diapers. The collected wastes were segregated and contained by the LGU of Naic through the MENRO which will be disposed of by the LGUs to the contracted sanitary landfill in Laguna. Moreover, the collected biodegradable wastes such as twigs, leaves, stems, and logs were buried to naturally decompose.

The clean-up activity was actively participated in by one hundred thirty-four (134) volunteers composed of ninety-three (93) males and forty-one (41) females.

Manila Bay Site Coordinating Management Office Focal Person Engr. Marie Belle A. Igmat led the “Panunumpa sa Paglilinis ng Kapaligiran at Baybaying Dagat” as a pledge commitment to show our action in a variety of ways which ensures the participation of all the individuals from across society.

The ICC is known to be the largest volunteer work geared towards marine conservation and the creation of unified solutions to the growing debris problem of the country. ###
