Los Baños, Laguna – In an effort to further capacitate and instill relevant life skills to the members of its Quick Response Team, PENRO Laguna, in partnership with Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) – Los Banos headed by Cynthia N. Quintans and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Los Banos, conducted a four-day training on Standard First Aid (SFA) and Basic Life Support (BLS) at the Regional Extension Office – Lalakay, Los Banos, Laguna from March 28-31, 2023.

The said training includes discussion on first aid, its goals and limitations, responsibilities of first aid providers, emergency action principles, and various medical conditions where first aid can be applied to. Moreover, it includes discourse on emergency procedures in recognition of respiratory or cardiac arrest and the proper application of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in maintaining life until a victim recovers or until an advanced life support is available.

The resource speakers from MDRRMO and BFP used both written examinations and return demonstrations as teaching strategies to test whether the participants comprehend both the algorithms of basic life support and standard first aid.

The SFA and BLS training were realized since PENRO recognizes that life support training such as the same is a vital life skill that provides its personnel with knowledge of dealing with medical emergencies and empowers them to save lives in times of emergency and disaster.
