In celebration of International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) 2022 with the theme “Fighting for Trash Free Seas- Pilipinas”, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) conducted coastal clean-up in three (3) barangays in Lemery, Batangas.

The activity was participated by around 300 individuals composed of selected personnel from DENR CALABARZON Regional Office, DENR PENRO Batangas headed by PENRO Noel M. Recillo, DENR CENRO Calaca headed by CENRO Isagani Q. Amatorio, representatives from Lemery MENR Office headed by MENRO Gary Mendoza, Sangguniang Kabataan Municipal Federation headed by Ms. Ivanna Pauline Malabanan, barangay officials and residents of three (3) barangays in Lemery specifically Brgy. Wawa Ibaba headed by Brgy. Captain Adonis Enriquez, Brgy. Wawa Ilaya and District I. Also participated are volunteers from Private Sectors: Kerry Manufacturing Inc., SEM Calaca and Canon Business Machines (Philippines) Inc., Non-government Organizations: Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines- Batangas Chapter, Community rescue Volunteers, Taal Volcano Lady Eagles Club, Lemery Youth Club, and Earth Wise Club.

CENRO Isagani Amatorio extended his appreciation to all the participants who voluntarily joined the event to help improve oceans health and achieve trash free seas turns into reality.

A discussion on the use of ICC forms and "Clean Swell" application were also conducted prior to the clean-up for proper data monitoring of trash collected by category as identified by the Ocean Conservancy Organization.

Most of the trash collected were cigarette butts, plastic bottles, plastic sachets and diapers. A total of 90 sacks were collected in a 2-kilometer shoreline of coastal barangays of Lemery, Batangas. These were picked-up by the dump truck of the LGU Lemery for final sorting in their Materials Recovery Facility (MRF).
