The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office of Tanay coordinated and sought assistance from the PENRO Rizal regarding the alleged illegal cutting of trees at Sitio Pinagsabiran, Brgy. Sampaloc, Tanay, Rizal. Together with Forest Ranger Maria Adora Frogosa, staff from Barangay Sampaloc, and Sitio Coordinator of Pinagsabiran, Mister Joey Digno the team proceeded to the area where the alleged illegal activity happened.

Upon arrival, the respondent could not be found and a representative appeared to talk with the team. He showed a tree cutting permit but the team found out that it had already expired. The said person stated that they are not aware of the expiration of the permit and advised the group to talk about this matter to the respondent itself. On July 27, 2022, the group visited again and the respondent presented the same expired cutting permit. The group elaborated that the cutting permit issued will also expire depending on the date the applicants requested the trees to be cut. The team further explained that cutting trees without a permit or cutting trees outside the validity period of the issued permit from the DENR is a violation of Section 77 of Presidential Decree 705 as amended by Executive Order 277 and Republic Act 7161, also known as the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines.

The cut Mahogany trees with a total volume of 541.78 board feet were apprehended by the team and are hauled to the PENRO Rizal for safekeeping. The respondent is also required to attend a technical conference as part of the Administrative Confiscation Proceedings.
