Los Baños, Laguna – DENR PENRO Laguna personnel participated in the Turnover Ceremony of the new DENR Secretary via Zoom at DENR-PENRO, Brgy. Lalakay Los Baños, Laguna on July 21, 2022.

The newly appointed DENR Secretary, Hon. Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, is the president of the National Resilience Council. A science and technology-based public-private partnership in the implementation of Sendai framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Paris Climate Agreement.

DENR Secretary Yulo-Loyzaga started with the definition of resilience as to survive and thrive in the face of shocks and uncertainties. She stated a mission representing an ethical stewardship to serve with excellence and virtue, upholds shared environmental values, scientific and technical excellence with the participation of stakeholders, and shows transparency in the plans and decisions of the department. Scientific risk-based approaches will be used to address issues.

She emphasized the crucial role of DENR in the accounting of the country’s natural resources. This will involve the use of science and technology as well as the importance of management and economics to achieve the foundation of the administration agenda. One of the goals is to build resilient communities along with other government agencies. Aside from that, the DENR Secretary would like to work on cities and recognized these as the engines of growth and highly dependent on ecosystems. It is needed to combat trial emergencies through practical climate change adaptation measures, the use of science to approach the national and local scale impacts of climate change living in the multi-hazard environment. Lastly, continuous protection of the indigenous species is also included in the priorities as these are part of the natural heritage and will contribute to the benefit of the country.  ###
