Majayjay, Laguna - In observance of the International Day for Biological Diversity 2022 with a theme “Building a shared future for all life”, DENR PENRO Laguna, in coordination with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of barangay Taytay, facilitated the clean-up drive within the vicinity of Taytay Falls in Majayjay, Laguna last May 24, 2022.

The clean-up activity was led by APASu Jocema S. Adornado with the presence of the barangay captain, Bonifacio R. Consebido, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) personnel, and employees of PENRO Laguna.

Barangay captain Consebido gave his warm welcome and gratitude to all the participants in this activity. He also stated the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of Taytay falls and the safety of hundreds of visitors for them to enjoy the experience of this tourist spot.

The activity aims to collect and segregate solid wastes inside the area as part of the Department’s movement in protecting and maintaining the interconnected habitats of flora and fauna. A total of 170 kilograms, consisting of 20 kilograms of non-biodegradable wastes such as plastic bags and used sacks of fertilizer left on the ground near the Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) and 155 kilograms of glass and plastic bottles as recyclable wastes were segregated and collected which will be picked up by municipal garbage collector managed by the MENRO.

In addition, 70 IEC materials have been produced and distributed featuring the endemic species of flora and fauna and how to be a responsible tourist in Mts. Banahaw San-Cristobal Protected Landscape.
