Despite several stern warnings given by the DENR CENRO Lipa on illegal trading of wildlife, a certain trader continues to sell without having the necessary permits to engage in commercial bird selling. While enroute to a fieldwork and patrolling activity, 22 heads of Parakeets (Melopsittacus undulatus) and 16 heads of African lovebirds (Agapornis fischeri) were confiscated in Brgy. Sta. Rita Karsada, Batangas City.

A fitting highlight for the National Women’s Month Celebration, the confiscation was led by two female Forest Rangers of CENRO Lipa City FR Marilou Tarcelo and FR Sofia Banuelos, who exuded courage in the line of duty and dedication to the protection of the environment and wildlife. The CENR Officer acknowledged the admirable act of the female workforce of the Enforcement and Monitoring Section (EMS) who have been the backbone of the reliable yet lean and mean enforcement arm of the Office.

The offender will be held liable under the provisions of Republic Act 9147 otherwise known as the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act. On March 29, 2022, the nineteen pairs of wildlife were turned-over to the Regional Wildlife Rescue Center for care and safekeeping.
