A Coastal Clean-up and a Community, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) campaign was conducted at Brgy. Lagadlarin, Lobo, Batangas in celebration of World Wetlands Day 2022 with a theme “Wetlands Action for People and Nature”. The activity was spearheaded by OIC, PENR Officer Noel M. Recillo in collaboration with the Local Government Unit and one of the Lobo’s community based tourism organization – Samahan ng Maliliit na Mangingisda sa Pangangalaga ng Kalikasan sa Brgy. Lagadlarin (SMMPKBL).

The activity aims to provide knowledge on the importance and proper care of wetlands. Mangroves forest stabilizes the coastline by reducing erosion caused by storm surges, current, and waves. It also helps absorb water during heavy rains which reduces the chances of coastal flooding. It also provides habitat and nesting area for fishes and other wildlife species.

A total of 38 volunteers, including the staff from PENRO Batangas, CENRO Lipa City, People’s Organization, and local officials joined the said activity. A total of  14 sacks of various waste materials were collected which was turned over to the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) for proper disposal.

“Ipagpatuloy po natin ang ating pangangalaga sa mga mangrove. Maaaring maliit na gawain itong ating gagawing clean-up subalit kung tayo ay sama-sama at tulong-tulong ay malaking bagay din para sa ating kalikasan” PENRO Recillo said during the short program.

Safety and health protocols are strictly observed during the said activity. ###
